In-N-Out, the famous burger chain from California, was the first fast food restaurant to offer drive-thru service via a two-way speaker box. In addition to being the pioneers of the drive-thru, In-N-Out is also the birthplace of the mouth-watering “animal sauce”.

Now, for those of you who are wondering, “What the heck is animal sauce?”, I’ll clue you in – this secret sauce is most similar to a Thousand Island dressing, but way better; think tangy, sweet, and savory. Animal sauce is used at the famous burger chain as a dip for fries and a dressing for burgers, and in my opinion, once you go with it, you can’t go without it.

“The first Animal Style® burger was created in 1961 by mustard-cooking the beef patty and adding hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, pickle, extra spread, and grilled onions.”

I was inspired to create my own version of this delicious sauce, but I must give credit to The Edgy Veg for her ingenious rendition of this finger-licking sauce. I’ve adapted this recipe to my taste preference and cooking style, but be sure to give all the love to her on this one!
